Courageous Beginnings: A Workshop for Navigating Your Journey of Personal and Professional Growth
Date: May 28, 2025
Time: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Mountain Time
Unlock new insights and strategies by attending this innovative workshop. Don't miss exploring essential questions and connecting with others on a similar journey. Secure your spot today and start a transformative exploration!
As we kick off this workshop, let's ponder a few crucial questions: “Where should I begin?” “What do I need to navigate new and uncertain situations?” And most importantly, how do you tackle that persistent question in the back of your mind: "Did I make the right decision?"
This Courageous Beginnings workshop integrates an evidence-based approach, offering innovative tools and strategies to enhance personal and professional well-being. Psychological well-being affects our ability to cope, grow, and learn. Participants will be able to address the differences between traditional self-care methods and a goal-oriented positive psychology approach to well-being. The six dimensions of psychological well-being influence our lives and work—Self-acceptance, strong connections with others, autonomy, the skill to handle complex situations in ways that fit your needs, having meaningful goals and a clear purpose, and continually growing and evolving as a person (Ryff, 1989; 2024).
Participants will explore personal challenges and goals through their narratives and hear from nurses across the globe, many new to the profession — how they have grown, changed, and emerged as healthy professionals committed to themselves and their profession. Unique and creative practices (writing, arts, poetry, nature, activism) will facilitate interprofessional, interracial, intergender, and intercultural learning and collaboration.
Underpinning the content and practices in this workshop is a body of international research covering positive psychology, nursing, medicine, the arts, and social sciences. Individual and collective strategies and practices will focus on self-compassion, boundary-setting, finding meaning and purpose, and alleviating stress through the respite of nature and joy through the arts and creativity. The profound healing effects of advocacy and activism on health and well-being are introduced. The shared responsibility of confronting the tumultuous healthcare environment is emphasized—especially the burnout, vicarious trauma, grief, and moral distress left in its wake. Finally, attendees will learn how to access the benefits of professional support and resources to continue their well-being journey.
Finally, attendees will not only receive a “Journey” guidebook that includes articles, step-by-step practices, a well-being pocket card, bibliography and booklist (fiction and nonfiction), and a playlist; they will also be able to keep in touch with fellow attendees and the presenter for a two-week post-workshop “Well-Being Challenge” which offers opportunities to reflect, videos of practices, and other resources. After the “Well-Being Challenge” is over, attendees will still to have access to these materials.
